Product Manager - Life Science Data Products
We're looking for someone to take on a strategic product management role that will be instrumental in further growing Hanson Wade Group’s Data products business based on an understanding of market and client requirements.
Reporting to the Head of Product, this position is responsible for determining where and how to invest in specific capabilities across our portfolio to provide the best return on investment for Hanson Wade Group aligned to overall business and product strategies.
About the role:
The primary responsibility is to enrich our understanding of customer and market needs, to align our product offerings to meet those market problems, with an initial focus on predictive analytical tools and visualisations, that help to reduce risk in the drug development process and enable strategic and operational investment decisions. To represent those needs in the form of product positioning, use cases, product features and high level product requirements with a view to identify and maximise the opportunities to grow revenue, drive penetration across key accounts and promote customer loyalty/satisfaction.
This role will work closely with key potential/current customers, customer-facing staff including Sales, other Product Managers and Producers, Research Operations and the Technical team to determine, prioritize and oversee implementation of product investments, including new features, functionalities and content. The product manager will work with Sales & Marketing to define the go-to-market strategy, communicating the product positioning, key benefits and target customers.
Responsibilities:
Commercial
- Develop deep understanding of market challenges and related value propositions of portfolio offerings in line with Hanson Wade and Beacon’s product strategy:
- Articulation of the value prop and how it will evolve in the future
- Develop strong customer relationships to identify new growth opportunities and collect product feedback
- Establish new or leverage existing repeatable mechanisms with customers and customer-facing employees to understand market needs and validate hypotheses/assumptions
- Develop and deliver annual budget for portfolio developments against agreed business milestones: deep understanding of cost and sales factors
- Laser focus on Customer Delight
- Be the Voice of the Customer in the product development process
- Provide quantitative and qualitative product feedback to support development decisions: data driven decision-making – justifying investment
- Predict, interpret and respond rapidly to market challenges/changes – developing these user needs into successful solutions delivering ROI
- Accountability for the validation and launch of product enhancements and new modules
- Work to tight commercial deadlines and sign-offs
- Develop and maintain user personas, use cases, market insights and competitor intelligence
- Develop a deep understanding of the value of our proposition for each different type of user
- Support commercial teams with training and support materials
- Support other product management activities as needed
Project Management
- Maintain Beacon Product Roadmap in line with strategic guidelines and communicate it effectively to all internal and external stakeholders
- Manage the execution and delivery of product improvement works: on time and to agreed budgets
- Responsible for prioritisation and providing clarity on product vision and requirements
- Excellence in product lifecycle management: ideation, prototyping, development, release, post-implementation analysis and iterations
- Produces detailed and accurate product specification: features and scope which are in line with customer needs and Hanson Wade commercial requirements; minimising liabilities
- Identify, document and track market validation
- Prepare and deliver functional briefs for: sales, marketing, tech and research
- Plan and run project meetings for the team on each module, as the internal project manager for each product. This involves guiding, energising and maximising the performance of the marketing, sales and operations function in relation to the product
- Maintain product documentation: scope, features and audit history of decision-making
People
- Build and manage relationships with sales, marketing, tech and research ops maintaining positive interactions and high quality support
- Ability to resolve conflicts
- Provide and lead training for sales, research and marketing
- Responsible for stimulation, motivation and engagement of reports
- Be the role module for data product producers
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Understanding of key market intelligence needs of pharma drug development teams (e.g. Scientific leaders, R&D scientists, Clinical, Translational, External Innovation, Market / Competitive Intelligence etc.)
- Strong communication and influencing skills
- High energy and driven with an ability to execute at speed
- Excellent presentation skills with the ability to present to large groups
- A collaborative team player with excellent written and oral communication skills and a proven ability to work with cross-functional teams
Education & Experience:
- 5+ years of product management experience, ideally in the life sciences market intelligence industry
- Previous experience of defining, developing and launching predictive analytical tools, metrics and visualisations for R&D portfolio risk in Life Sciences
- Project management experience
