Graduate Assessment Day
Every March we host an assessment day for graduates to attend and interview for our Delegate Sales team. The day usually consist of some team exercises, short sales pitches, and 15 min 1-2-1 interview with our sales managers.
While assessment days may seem scary and daunting, we always receive positive feedback from the graduates that attend, and the day is designed for you to assess us as a potential employer just as much as we are assessing you!
Don’t just take our word for it though – see what some of the grads who attended last years assessment day have to say:
'What really stood out to me about the assessment day was the valuable insights I got about the work culture and environment of Hanson Wade Group. We had the chance to speak to all the different departments through a networking lunch, small presentations and an office tour. I felt there was a great balance as we got to know the company better while they also learned more about us' Ribisha Thapa, Delegate Sales Executive
Why should you attend the assessment day?
Career Progression
Kieran Crewe, Senior Business Development Manager
After graduating from Nottingham Trent University with a degree in Accounting, I joined Hanson Wade in the summer of 2019 having taken part in the Assessment Day earlier that year. Alongside a large group of other graduates in the summer intake, many of whom are still in the company today, I began in the Delegate Sales department. We started by really getting to know and understand the company, its outlook for the future, and a deep dive into each department, before then starting to learn the various sales skills and processes necessary.
The start of my journey at Hanson Wade was a shaky one. Whilst I threw myself into the role, I did struggle with maintaining a healthy work-life balance, picking up the sales process, and having the confidence to put myself into a position where I’m speaking with leaders in their respective fields. But over time, the constant support of my manager and the team around me got me to a place where it all clicked and I felt I was performing at a high level.
At this point, Hanson Wade’s progression scheme came into conversations, and I decided to further develop my sales skills in the Sponsorship Sales Department, something I didn’t think I’d ever end up going into. And whilst I was hesitant. 5 minutes into my introduction to the department, I knew it was an opportunity I wanted to grasp and run with, to find new ceilings, develop new skills, and have new experiences.
When I started in Sponsorship Sales I was lucky enough to be put onto a launch event which showed good potential. Through the efforts of the whole team, this event has multiplied into an entire portfolio of events running across the year. This has given me a great sense of independence and responsibility to not only support Hanson Wade's events, but to provide our event partners with the opportunity to grow their businesses through our events.
Throughout my career with Hanson Wade so far and as one of the Senior Business Development Managers, I’ve learned the value of listening and learning from others, backing your abilities, and showing perseverance. The focus Hanson Wade has on training and supporting individuals to reach, then develop their goals is one of the reasons I love coming to work and fully embracing the dynamic, aspirational culture.
Other opportunities at Hanson Wade:
Sometimes candidates attend these assessment days, and we decide that they aren’t the right fit for sales but are still the right fit for Hanson Wade – just last year we offered 3 candidates who attended the assessment day roles within our Production team.
A chance to make friends:
If you get offered a position at the assessment day, it is a great chance to meet some of your future colleagues in advance of your first day – making starting a new job a whole lot less nerve wracking!
